Engineering ambassador Irene McMillan retires from REACT
Irene McMillan
An ambassador for a leading Cumbrian engineering firm is retiring after 23 years with the company.
Irene McMillan joined REACT Engineering as an administrator and receptionist at its Cleator Moor office, and over the years her job has grown into marketing and recruitment and Irene quickly built up strong relationships in the community as well as within the business.
Liaising with local schools and colleges both for REACT and for the REACT Foundation, Irene has organised a programme of events and initiatives over the years to inspire thousands of young people about opportunities, especially in science and engineering.
New appointment for REACT Engineering
Rebecca Dunn
A West Cumbrian engineering and project management consultancy has strengthened its team with a senior appointment.
Environmental specialist Rebecca Dunn has joined REACT Engineering as a principal consultant and will support its work at the Sellafield site.
REACT primarily works in civil nuclear decommissioning, nuclear-related defence, and nuclear new-build sectors.
Over the last 18 years, Rebecca, 41, who is originally from Caldbeck, has worked as an environmental advisor across sectors including energy, waste, construction and the public sector, as well as nuclear decommissioning.
She previously worked for global engineering firm Atkins on projects including the decommissioning of the Rolls-Royce Vulcan site in northern Scotland.
AT a time when the national focus is on opportunities for young people during the coronavirus pandemic, a pioneering engineering and project management consultancy has underlined its commitment to investing in the future. REACT Engineering has shown its agility and flexibility by continuing to operate successfully throughout the pandemic and supporting businesses and organisations by solving complex challenges. It has also continued to provide career opportunities, often for young people. When REACT, based at Cleator Moor, recently recruited six new team members, five of the new starters were aged 18 to 24. Tom Wright, 24, from Egremont, joined the team as a Graduate Engineer. He said: “REACT is known as an employer which supports and nurtures young talent. It was great to see five of us, all around the same age and all from West Cumbria, starting at REACT at the same time.”
