Cumbria Tourism is to meet with the Governor of the Bank of England as part of a roundtable debate regarding the challenges facing the sector.
Cumbria Tourismâs managing director Gill Haigh has been invited to join the virtual event with Andrew Bailey on Thursday to discuss how COVID-19 and Brexit are impacting the tourism industry, including the future outlook for businesses as restrictions continue to ease.
It coincides with the release of Cumbria Tourismâs new business performance survey, which has been compiled in the run-up to businesses reopening at Step 2 (today) and Step 3 (May 17) of the Governmentâs recovery âroadmapâ.

The Prime Minister’s road map to recovery is a further blow to Cumbria’s tourism industry, the county’s tourism chiefs said.
Gill Haigh, managing director of Cumbria Tourism, said: âEveryoneâs priority remains the safety of our visitors and our communities, but we have been calling for a clear road map to allow businesses to plan ahead for reopening and itâs helpful to now have this guidance to plan to.
âThe loss of Easter is not unexpected, although it will be a significant further financial blow to an industry that has already lost £2 billion of income over the past 12 months in our county alone.
