NH State Parks all in for normal summer at Hampton Beach

HAMPTON New Hampshire State Parks is planning on a “close to normal” summer at Hampton Beach with parking lots open at 100 percent capacity, nightly entertainment on the Seashell Stage, and other events taking place on state property. Phil Bryce, director of the state’s Division of Parks and Recreation, told selectmen Monday that will be the agency s recommendation to the governor for the upcoming summer tourism season.  We are trying to get as close to normal operating as we possibly can, Bryce said. “…We are looking forward to a really big season this year.   Bryce said state parks will continue to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols including promoting social distancing and mask-wearing. However, they would like to see all other park operations return to what they were pre-COVID.

Mount Washington Commission discusses capital needs for summit

WOLFEBORO — State Parks and Recreation Director Phil Bryce alerted members of the Mount Washington Commission at their virtual meeting on Friday, Jan. 29, to a major change in the operation of the “state side” of the now permanently financed Land and Water Conservation Fund. The state no longer determines how this money will be spent; instead, the decisions are made in Washington. Under this new procedure, land acquisition will be LWCF’s primary goal rather  infrastructure projects such as upgrades and replacements, Bryce said. That said, money to help fund the sewage treatment plant — still in the design phase — in the Mt. Washington State Park likely won t qualify for LWCF dollars, he warned.

Entrance fees mulled for Sherman Adams Building

MOUNT WASHINGTON — It’s likely an admission fee will be charged by next summer to visitors entering the Sherman Adams Building located at the summit of Mount Washington. That was the consensus reached at the virtual meeting held last Friday by the Mt. Washington Advisory Commission, made up of a dozen Mount Washington State Park stakeholders and chaired by state Sen. Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro). No one disagreed with the conclusion that revenues generated by selling hot dogs and gift shop items cannot cover the cost of running the park. The commission had last met Aug. 28 in Franconia Notch. Capital projects discussed included a new sewage treatment plant and disposal system.

Capital costs likely to result in entrance fee for Adams building on Mt Washington

CONCORD — It’s very likely that an admission fee will be charged — possibly by next summer — to visitors entering the Sherman Adams Building in Mount Washington State Park. At least that was the consensus reached by the Mt. Washington Advisory Commission, made up of a dozen state park stakeholders that’s chaired by state Sen. Jeb Bradley of Wolfeboro, at its virtual meeting on Friday, Dec. 11. No one disagreed with the conclusion that the revenues generated by selling hot dogs and gift shop items cannot cover the cost of running the Park. Capital projects previously discussed at the commission’s Aug. 28 meeting in Franconia Notch were updated.
