CONWAY â Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Hampshire House of Representatives is set to open its 2021 session in a parking lot at the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
While many of the 400 House members plan to meet in a drive-in sort of format, several have shared concerns about meeting during the coronavirus pandemic and at least one representative from Carroll County will not be in attendance.
Rep. Tom Buco (D-Conway), the countyâs longest-serving Democrat, said Tuesday he wonât be making the trek to Durham to begin his eighth term.

CONWAY â Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald announced Thursday that autopsy results for New Hampshire Speaker of the House Dick Hinch of Merrimack, who died Wednesday at age 71, showed âthe cause of Speaker Hinchâs death was COVID-19.â
âIt just goes to show that we all have to be super careful,â state Senate Majority Leader-elect Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro) said by phone Thursday.
Hinch is being remembered by former colleagues from the Mount Washington Valley as a âgood guyâ and âsomeone who cared very deeply about the state of New Hampshire.â
They were shocked to learn he died Wednesday from COVID-19.
Former Speaker Gene Chandler (R-Bartlett) said he had spoken with Hinch a few times over the past week after Hinch was sworn in as the newest leader of the N.H. House on Dec. 2 during an outdoor ceremony at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
