Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly on Tuesday named attorney and community leader Emily O’Donnell as his pick to serve as city attorney. If approved by the City Council, she would be the first woman in history to occupy the city’s top legal office.
Mayor Kelly said, “Emily is an outstanding attorney and a committed advocate for families. Throughout her career, she has been a champion for women and vulnerable communities, most recently launching an eviction prevention initiative that kept dozens of families in their homes.
Coonrod Makes New Push To Have Juneteenth Declared A City Holiday Wednesday, March 17, 2021
City Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod is making a new push to add Juneteenth as a paid holiday for city employees.
She said, Black people just don t have a holiday for us.
She first brought up the idea last July, but there was never a vote on the matter.
At the time she was told by County Attorney Phil Noblett that she needed to check with city finance to see what the costs would be to the city.
Also, he said a resolution would need to be drawn up.
City Pays $550,000 To Resolve Lawsuit Brought In Connection With Rape By A Former City Police Officer Tuesday, March 9, 2021
The city has agreed to pay $550,000 to resolve a case brought by one of the women raped by former Chattanooga Police officer Desmond Logan.
The lawsuit noted that Logan had a previous history of sexual misconduct while in uniform, including a prior rape when the woman was assaulted.
City Attorney Phil Noblett said the settlement came through a mediation process.
Logan was arrested by federal authorities and eventually sentenced to serve 20 years in federal prison.

City Industrial Development Board Approves Expansion From 7 To 9 Members Monday, March 1, 2021
The city Industrial Development Board on Monday approved its expansion from seven to nine members.
City Attorney Phil Noblett said that will allow each of the nine City Council members to have an appointee.
As it is, he said there are issues at times over certain districts not have representation on the board.
He said after state charter changes are completed then two new members will be named to the panel.
