The spot where hungry Short Pump shoppers used to go for Colonel Sanders’ secret blend of herbs and spices will soon be dishing out an herb of a different sort.
Green Leaf Medical, the Maryland-based company that built and runs the Richmond region’s first and thus far only medical cannabis production facility on the city’s Southside, inked a lease earlier this week for its first satellite retail dispensary in the area.

Saxton Borough Council on Monday evening learned details of gLeaf Medical Cannibisâ expansion plans into the coming year. The $40 million expansion project is expected to be completed near the end of 2021 more than triple the size of its workforce from the current 125 employees to 525 employees.
Making and participating in a power point presentation was gLeaf Medical CEO Phil Goldberg, vice president of sales Steve Burton and project manager Alan Mountain. Goldberg said the purpose of the visit was to answer questions and update council on the companyâs status and to inform them where and how the company will be expanding in the future.
