Robbery at Elliot Lake gas bar

SHARE ON: The East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police is asking for assistance in regards to a robbery that occurred at a gas bar on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake. OPP Constable Phil Young says on Sunday at around 7:00 pm, police were called to the gas bar regarding a robbery that had just occurred. A person entered the building and approached the employee. A handgun was brandished and the entire cash box was stolen. There were no injuries and the suspect departed on foot. Young says the suspect looked to be male, wearing a black toque, checkered black and white bandanna covering his face up to his eyes, black vest with gold/yellow letters stitched on the top left breast side pocket, black and white plaid long-sleeved shirt underneath the vest, black pants, black gloves, light-coloured boots/shoes. Witness described that the firearm that was brandished resembled a revolver.

Two snowmobile fatalities under investigation

A Goulais Township resident was killed on a snowmachine yesterday morning according to the East Algoma OPP. OPP Constable Phil Young says police responded to a snowmobile collision near Dayton Road in the Iron Bridge vicinity at 9:30 am Tuesday morning. Thirty-year-old Wade Kirby of Goulais Township was pronounced deceased at the scene. Young says the investigation is also continuing into a snowmobile fatality on Sunday evening near Ranger Lake. A 40-year-old person was pronounced deceased at the scene, but no name has been released while the investigation continues.
