Biloxi Public Schools implementing mask mandate

WXXV News 25 August 2, 2021 Credit: Pexels The Biloxi Public Schools Board of Trustees accepted the recommendation that the Biloxi Public School District adhere to the CDC and MSDH mask recommendations. That recommendation requires that all staff/students/visitors wear masks while inside of campus buildings and on school buses, regardless of vaccination status. This decision will be reevaluated by the school district administration and the Biloxi Public Schools Board of Trustees at the September board meeting.

WXXV News 25 July 27, 2021 Given the new evidence on the delta variant, today the CDC is recommending universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools. One local concerned parent of three small children, Stephanie Ulrich, has been advocating for a change in mask policy for Biloxi Public Schools. Her two youngest contracted COVID-19 and won their battles, although not without severe complications. Currently, Biloxi Public Schools has released their 2021-2022 Plan for Success stating: In accordance with the CDC and MSDH guidance, the Biloxi Public School District recommends that unvaccinated staff and students wear masks while inside of school buildings. This is recommended, not required. The use of masks may change throughout the school year due to updated guidance or newly adopted executive orders.

(WLOX) - Two former Biloxi School maintenance employees have been arrested and charged with fraud and embezzlement for allegedly submitting fraudulent timesheets during their time as employees for the district in 2020. According to State Auditor Shad White, Michael Ludlow and Mickey Bellande Jr. were both arrested and indicted for fraud and embezzlement in cases that date all the way back to 2020.

(WJTV) – On Wednesday, State Auditor Shad White announced special agents from his office have arrested two former maintenance employees at the Biloxi Public School District. Michael Ludlow and Mickey Bellande, Jr., were both indicted for fraud and embezzlement. Demand letters were presented to both men upon arrest. According to White, Ludlow is accused of submitting fraudulent timesheets from October 2020 to November 2020 to embezzle money from the Biloxi Public School District. He was allegedly absent from work during time he claimed to be present. Ludlow also purportedly conducted personal business at other times he was on the clock and being paid by the school district. Special Agents presented a $6,678.32 demand letter to Ludlow when he was arrested.
