A video posted by PAWS in its Facebook account showed that the cats were detained at a cramp and filthy cage in the basement of El Pueblo Condominium.
As they were allegedly not given food and water, some cats and kittens starved to death.
The five surviving cats, that were found by Rezalina Jane and Jason Edward Johnson, a couple who lives in the condominium, were rescued by PAWS in September 2020.
The rescued cats were brought to a veterinary and were found to be dehydrated, malnourished, and suffering from alopecia, fleas, and gingivitis. They are now recovering at the PAWS shelter.
Heart Evangelista is indeed a doting fur mom!
This she proved as she immediately ran in high heels along Ortigas Avenue after her dog, Che Che, jumped out of their car.
“Nakakakloka hinabol namin si Che Che sa daan! Muntik ako lumusot sa truck!,” Heart shared on Twitter.

Then the animal adoption advocate thanked the man who opened his car door to stop her pet.
“Sana wala naka video dahil mukha akong tanga – naka kulot at high heels making pigil the trucks and cars and running after Che Che. What an afternoon,” another tweet of her read.
Barbie Almalbis has officially dropped a heartfelt tribute to her grandaunt
Nita Hontiveros-Lichauco, or Tata, as she is fondly referred to. Entitled “An AsPin’s Song,” the track assumes the role of a beloved indigenous mixed-breed dog in the Philippines, which has nothing but utmost love and appreciation for the late animal rights supporter and activist.
Having served The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) for the entirety of her life, Tata was instrumental in empowering people for countless volunteer opportunities that involved rescue, protection and sheltering of strayed and abused animals.
Barbie recalls, “Tata was a gifted musician and a champion for animals. She was the President of the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, which she reorganized in 1986, after having been one of its youngest volunteers in the ’50s. I had always wanted to write the song she requested, but I didn’t have much experience with AsPins.”
PAWS reminded the public that loud noises and flashing lights of fireworks can be frightening for pets.
The animal welfare group urged pet owners to postpone or set nighttime activity such as feeding, walking, or playtime with pets to an earlier time so that pets “are more or less exhausted and calm when the fireworks are set to go off.”
PAWS also encouraged pet owners to create a “safe haven” for pets to hide out while fireworks are ongoing.
“Ensure that this area is enclosed through to prevent your pet from running away because of all the anxiety-inducing excitement. If possible, set up several pet havens for your pet so that they can choose which one feels most comfortable for them,” PAWS said.
