PAWS reminded the public that loud noises and flashing lights of fireworks can be frightening for pets.
The animal welfare group urged pet owners to postpone or set nighttime activity such as feeding, walking, or playtime with pets to an earlier time so that pets “are more or less exhausted and calm when the fireworks are set to go off.”
PAWS also encouraged pet owners to create a “safe haven” for pets to hide out while fireworks are ongoing.
“Ensure that this area is enclosed through to prevent your pet from running away because of all the anxiety-inducing excitement. If possible, set up several pet havens for your pet so that they can choose which one feels most comfortable for them,” PAWS said.
