Cultural Center of the Philippines, through its Visual Arts and Museum Division is opening five (5) additional slots for the 21AM Curatorial Workshop to be held on February 1-5, 2021 at 10 AM – 5 PM via Zoom. The original November 2020 schedule of the workshop was postponed due to schedule conflicts.
The
21AM Curatorial Workshop will be facilitated by the corporation TAOINC, which is also the commissioned corporation to close the Museo ng Kalinangang Katutubo and curate the establishment of 21AM the new contemporary art museum presently being established by the CCP.
The 21AM Curatorial Workshop is a capacity-building endeavor that foresees possible involvement of the participants in immediate and future 21AM projects and programs. kíngke, the
asó (smoke) from the flames touching the white canvass marvelously transforms a rather dark and dull natural element into recognizable images.
Marvin’s ingenuity is not as an attempt to impress. Venturing into painting with fire and smoke is finding an alternative paint source without having to shell out money on oil or acrylic.
“
Kón pigádo ka, mangítà ka guid iban nga pama-ági. Ka mahál sang oil. Indì ko masarangan (If you’re poor, you will find a way. Oil paint is expensive. I cannot afford it),” Marvin explains.

Failed Reconciliation may have been a personal story of pain, but mirrors the pain of many Filipino families.
“It’s a family portrait and was not necessarily created [to win an award]. It was our life. It is our life,” Melvin tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle in a phone interview after the Dec. 18 virtual awarding ceremony.

What may be a colorful and vibrant collage of sewn fabric is the paradox of inter-personal relationships among family members in adulthood during the Christmas season. It weaves between the physical and emotional connections or the lack of it between Melvin, his parents, his brothers, and sister.
The CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art (EPAD) is now accessible via epa.culturalcenter.gov.ph
The book first came out in 1994 followed by an updated version in 2018 with 12 volumes. CCP and the encyclopediaâs editorial board, however, had to think of new strategies and content for the Filipino youth and the worldwide audience, most of whom are almost always online.
EPAD, as the digital edition is called, follows the 2018 printed version, with added and updated entries, especially in the major works and major artists sections.
It is considered a new milestone in showcasing Philippine art and culture, giving a much wider audience more affordable subscription rates, starting at P75 for a month. To help teachers, students, and everybody interested, the EPAD will be interactive will be continuously updated. It is also conveniently accessible on all devices.
