It is unavoidably the case that any discussion about last November’s US elections becomes immediately mired in (unfounded) allegations of electoral fraud, with violent recriminations of the sort we witnessed on our TVs last evening.
This is unfortunate, because the most important aspect of the 2020 race was its remarkable success. An accurate and fair election was organised across 50 states and attracted a record-breaking level of participation: 155 million people cast their votes – and all in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.
