New Year, New Parish is the slogan for Saturday s beautification event in Lafayette.
It s being put on by Parish Proud, One Acadiana, United Way of Acadiana, UL Lafayette and Republic Services at the intersection of Cameron and University.
One nearby store manager says she s so looking forward to the event on January 23, which lasts from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm. I m happy because sometimes people just throw their trash in the parking lot and sometimes I pick it up, says Gemma Jackson, manager at Hair Star.
This Saturday, Gemma won t be the only one tending to the litter outside the shop though. Parish Proud is inviting any one who would like to help clean up the University Avenue Corridor.
Master Serg. Jordan Killebrew, a Air Force medic, swabs a community member at the Monongalia County Health Department s free testing on Oct. 7, 2020 in the Student Rec Center.
The University is continuing to screen students and staff on campus for COVID-19 using the same testing as last semester as well as new self-administer tests, water testing and vaccinations for those within the priority groups.Â
In combination with COVID-19 tests that are administered by healthcare professionals, WVU has introduced self-administered tests this year that allow students and faculty to swab their own nasal passages under the guidance of a trained medical professional.

Duck hunting is one of the great cultural traditions of Arkansas, and it also pumps a lot of money into our economy.
Stuttgart and Arkansas County are known as the duck-hunting capital of the world. Every Thanksgiving, Stuttgart hosts the Wings Over the Prairie Festival and the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest, which attract thousands of duck hunters. But duck hunting is special in hundreds of camps and bayous across the state, from Alicia to Des Arc to Dumas.
The late Pat Peacock of Stuttgart, the first woman to serve on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission when she was appointed to fill an unexpired term, was an avid duck hunter. She is the only woman to win the duck-calling contest twice.
