Susan Wright leads in tight race for open U S House seat in Texas

Susan Wright leads in tight race for open U.S. House seat in Texas Fort Worth Star-Telegram 1 hr ago Eleanor Dearman, Fort Worth Star-Telegram May 2 Republican Susan Wright, the wife of late U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, has the lead in the race for Congressional District 6, with the special election headed into a runoff. With all polling places reporting, Wright had 19.2% of the votes, according unofficial numbers from the Texas Secretary of State. Next behind her were Republican State Rep. Jake Ellzey with 13.9% and Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez with 13.4%. Twenty-three candidates are running to for the North Texas district, previously held by late U.S. Rep. Ron Wright, who died in February after battles with lung cancer and COVID-19. The district includes most of Arlington and Mansfield and all of Ellis and Navarro counties.

Special election in TX06 douses Democrat hopes for House seat pick-up

AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster A special election was held in Texas Saturday for the 6th Congressional District. Texas Democrats (and national Democrats) were hopeful that their party could successfully pick up the seat left vacant by the death of Rep. Ron Wright, a Republican (pictured above). Just like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football, it looks as though the hopes of Democrats have once again been extinguished. A run-off will be between Rep. Wright’s widow, Susan, who won the top spot in the run-off and state Rep. Jake Ellzey. A Democrat came in third place, though, and almost made the second spot in the run-off. As I write this, the second-place winner has not been officially called. Here is the breakdown for the top three:
