The awards honor titles that have been published during the past year (March 2020 to March 2021). This is the first year for the awards, in which Barnes & Noble book buyers and sellers single out titles by new authors, and authors early in their careers, that they consider exceptional. The categories include children, young reader and young adult novels. “We are very proud as a bookseller to support the careers of authors,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “It is especially exciting to bring truly outstanding talent to everyone’s attention. Our booksellers have assembled a shortlist of stunning quality and these Awards will launch hitherto lesser-known authors on long and glittering careers.”

His court date was March 8. — WATERTOWN — Police report that they arrested Danielle Jette, 41, 1190 Litchfield Rd., Watertown at 1 p.m. March 3, for the charges of criminally negligent storage of a firearm, risk of injury to a minor and criminal liability for the acts of another/criminal possession of a firearm. The charges stem from the incident in which her children were shot and killed by Paul Ferguson in Watertown on December 3, 2019.  Ms. Jette was processed and released on a promise to appear in the Waterbury Superior Court at 9 a.m. March 16. Any further information will only be available through court documents after the arraignment.

Stiles Unit guard dies in connection with COVID-19

Author: Scott Eslinger (12NewsNow), Almiya White (KBMT) Published: 8:18 AM CST March 8, 2021 Updated: 10:46 PM CST March 8, 2021 BEAUMONT, Texas A Southeast Texas correctional officer who had just begun her career in January has become the latest TDCJ employee to die in connection to the coronavirus.  Tracey Adams, 45, died early Saturday morning after being hospitalized with COVID-19 for nearly a month according to a news release from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Adams, who was a “correctional officer III cadet” at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont, had been a TDCJ employee for less than two months the release said. She began her career with the department on January 19, 2021.
