State reports 5 new COVID-19 outbreaks at St. Clair County schools
Port Huron Times Herald
Editor s note: Port Huron High reported 11 cases Monday. The district previously reported the count at 12.
More than two dozen staff and student cases of the coronavirus have been newly reported at several schools around St. Clair County mostly in Marine City and Marysville.
That’s according to the latest data sent to the state by local health officials, marking a shift since last week when there were no new or ongoing cases listed for local districts. New and ongoing school outbreaks are updated Mondays.
Marine City middle and high schools, which are connected by a cafeteria, returned to remote learning on Monday as a result of the rise in cases. The high school was reported to have nine cases among students and staff, as of Monday afternoon, and East China Schools Superintendent Suzanne Cybulla said parents of affected students were notified of the shift before noon on Saturday

As COVID numbers climb once again in the Upper Thumb, several school districts have been feeling the effects. That includes both the Ubly and Cass City school districts, both of which are going virtual due to quarantined students and a shortage of staff members.
“We have about seven or eight kids who tested positive and about six to seven staff members also,” said Ubly School District Superintendent Joe Candella. “Because of that, we will be going virtual this week.”
