Two police officers who were shot multiple times in Braintree, Massachusetts, on Friday are expected to recover from their injuries, according to the chief of police. Braintree police Chief Mark Dubois said Saturday that 34-year-old Officer Matthew Donaghue is being released from Boston Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. BRAINTREE Two Massachusetts police officers were shot and a suspect and police K9 were killed Friday afternoon after police responded to a domestic violence call, officials say.
David Traub, spokesman for the Office of Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey, confirmed Friday afternoon that a suspect in the police shooting is dead near Braintree Village apartments. Braintree Police responded to a report of a domestic incident in the area of McCusker Drive, Mayor Charles Kokoros said in a statement around 2:45 p.m. Friday Shots were fired and two officers were transported to the hospital. The suspect is dead on scene, Traub said in a statement at 3:50 p.m.
The two officers were in surgery Friday afternoon, and it appears they will recover, Morrissey said. A police K9 that was a 12-year veteran of the force was fatally shot by the suspect, he said.
