ComPol Says “Good People” Will Get Stopped Depending on Area Crime “Demographics”
On Monday night, we told you the results of a racial profiling case heard in the Supreme Court. Justice Westmin James handed down a decision in the case brought against the Belize Police Department by Greg Nunez and Bryton Codd, two young black men. The judge ruled that it was unconstitutional for police to take pictures of the two men during a stop and search on August fourth 2020. The search yielded nothing, and the matter was taken to court. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams responded to the matter when questioned by host of Open Your Eyes, Marleni Cuellar.

Golfing in Belize – a Move to Further Develop the Sport
It is a sport that has been played in Belize for decades and since 2004, the Belize Open has had participation from athletes from as far as England, Canada, Colombia, and neighbouring Guatemala, Mexico and El Salvador. Over the weekend, players including U.S. Chargé d’affaires Keith Gilges and B.T.L. Chairman Mark Lizarraga as well as Galen Alumni gathered in the outskirts of Roaring Creek Village for you guessed it – golfing. News Five’s Duane Moody reports on the efforts to develop the sport among the youth in Belize.

Bryton Codd Tapped to Play Professional Volleyball in Finland
History was made today for the volleyball sport when for the first time a Belizean athlete was signed to play professionally in Europe. He is the third athlete from the Central American region to be drafted to play professionally in that part of the world. Twenty-six-year-old volleyball player and News Five anchor Bryton Codd has been chosen to play with a team in Finland for the next two years. It is a dream come true; something Codd says he has been working hard to achieve.

It was a momentous occasion inside the Mexico Sports Center this morning when his volleyball family as well as his parents and siblings observed in awe as Bryton Codd signed the official documents to play professional volleyball with a team from Finland.

“It is extremely difficult in the sense that when we had the first shooting in the St. Martin’s area, we did all we could have to saturate the area, to conduct operations in the area, to lock down some of them who we believe would have retaliated, but there’s so much and what did they do? They ventured out of St. Martin’s and went and killed somebody somewhere else. So the need that they have is to retaliate and we are not going to yield to them retaliating, we are going to do what we do to prevent it. And I don’t agree with you that the police have been more reactive because if you look at our daily patrols, we are patrolling these gang-ridden areas, we are conducting house searches, we’re conducting person searches, we’re conducting vehicle searches, we are talking with these gang members. Sports Community Host Press Conference
On Thursday, one national team member aired his discontent with the recent amendments to the COVID-19 regulations, which does not give any consideration to the resumption of contact sports for training purposes. As we reported, the sports community was planning to execute a sit in inside the Princess Casino to send a message to the Government of Belize. Well, the community made a last-minute decision to host a press conference instead at the Black Horse Athletic Gym in Belize City. Members of basketball, Brazilian jujitsu, softball and volleyball athletic associations joined in the call for the resumption of training.
