Some relief at last for market vendors. Local Government Minister Premila Kumar says vendors who are unable to sell their produce because of the COVID-19 lockdown or for safety reasons decide to close their stalls, will not be charged for the days they are not at the market.
“We have encouraged the councils to take this step to eliminate financial burden on those markets vendors who are not able to sell any produce and earn a living due to the restrictions or simply for safety reasons,” she said in a statement issued on Friday.

Market vendors who are unable to sell their produce because of the lockdown or for safety reasons decide to close their stalls, the municipal councils will ensure that market fees are not charged for the days vendors are not at the market.
This is the assurance from the Ministry of Local Government.
Minister Premila Kumar says they had encouraged the councils to take this step to eliminate financial burden on those market vendors who were not able to sell any produce and earn a living because of the restrictions or simply for safety reasons.

Minister for Housing and Community Development, Premila Kumar says the ministry is concerned that the residents in some informal settlements are not following COVID-19 safety protocols, and are socialising with their neighbours over grog or just a talanoa session.
Kumar says it has been brought to their attention that children are moving freely from one house to another in groups in the settlements.
She says staying home means staying in your own home and not moving from one home to another.
