Thanks to a $1,000 donation pledge from Brazil American Legion Post 2, the Mary T. Klinker Veterans Resource Center in Lafayette is now within $1,500 of reaching a fund-raising goal of $6,000.
The money will be used to pay for materials to provide a roof for the home of Brazil resident Terry Batchelor, one of eight siblings who have all served in the military.
Batchelor is currently recovering from a stroke in a house with a leaky roof, requiring plastic tote buckets to be placed on the floor to catch rainwater.
Family members and volunteers will construct the new roof once the materials are purchased.
