SAN ANGELO San Angelo drivers might soon feel a few less bumps in the road after the city hired not one, but two construction companies to repair broken streets and patch potholes across town.
On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, city council members unanimously approved emergency street repair contracts for both Reece Albert and James D. Goode Construction at an amount not to exceed $1 million.
Executive Director of Public Works Shane Kelton said the city needs to fix San Angelo roads as quickly as possible in the wake of February s winter storm before seasonal spring rains make the problem worse. The longer we wait to repair it, the more damage is going to be done to the surrounding pavement edges and road base, Kelton said during an earlier interview with the Standard-Times.

SAN ANGELO Visitors traveling along Concho Avenue to San Angelo s historic downtown district will now be welcomed by a new archway installed as part of efforts to revitalize the area.
Crews installed the archway Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the corner of Randolph and Concho Ave, a project that includes the placement of 12 historic street lights along the Concho Ave. corridor from Koenigheim to Randolph. The archway will stand tall welcoming all those who travel to downtown seeking art, dining, shopping, and entertainment, wrote Del Velasquez, Executive Director of Downtown San Angelo, Inc. in a news release.
Velasquez stated initial discussions of creating a gateway and well-lit entryway into historic downtown began in 2007, then became a reality in 2019 after financial contributions by the San Angelo Area Foundation, San Angelo Health Foundation, First Financial Bank, and San Angelo YMCA.
