WHEN Pat Lynch of Logstown, Kilcullen, set to cut a birthday cake last Friday to celebrate his 96th, he was in the company of his son Noel. Which added a certain unseen symmetry to the occasion.
Because at that precise moment, the official opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was taking place, and Noel was an archery competitor for Ireland in the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and in Barcelona in 1992. And the small celebratory event for Pat was organised by Brendan O’Connell, an Irish Canoeing competitor in Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976.
