Eagles to take on Islanders in empty arena as some QMJHL games resume

(Getty Images) The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season is set to resume Friday in Nova Scotia after a nearly two-month break. The league suspended the season on Dec. 1, saying play could resume as early as Jan. 3. The Quebec-based teams returned to action last week. Public health officials in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island approved the league to start playing games again on Jan. 29, with no fans in attendance.  When the season started in the fall, limited crowds were allowed to attend games in Nova Scotia.

QMJHL Teams In N B Remain Off The Ice

New Brunswick’s three Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams will remain off the ice for the foreseeable future. League officials say the province and Public Health have delayed their return to regular activities until the COVID situation improves. But the game will go on for the league’s three other Maritimes teams: the Halifax Mooseheads, Cape Breton Eagles, and Charlottetown Islanders. They are expected to return to the ice later this week after receiving approval from Public Health officials in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The league has posted an updated schedule including Halifax, Cape Breton and Charlottetown for the upcoming month.

Strang says Nova Scotia s COVID-19 vaccine supply is fragile

Posted: Jan 26, 2021 12:50 PM AT | Last Updated: January 27 Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang, right, says amid low COVID-19 numbers and warring variants, people must remain vigilant in following public health guidelines.(Communications Nova Scotia) Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang said planning the COVID-19 vaccine rollout beyond two-week blocks is challenging because the vaccine supply is fragile and ultimately out of our control. Strang made the comments Tuesday at a COVID-19 briefing where he outlined a three-month plan for prioritizing vaccinations amid supply constraints. The province also announced two more exposures in Halifax.  We are focusing on delivering vaccine to health-care workers who are directly involved in the front-line COVID response, as well as staff, residents and designated caregivers in long-term care and residential care facilities, he said.

Another NHL Prospect Joins Sea Dogs

The Sea Dogs have acquired overage goaltender Zachary Emond in a trade with Rouyn-Noranda. In return, the Huskies received a fourth-round pick in 2023 and a sixth-round pick in 2022. Emond was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft by San Jose. The Quebec native signed a standard entry-level contract with the team in May 2019. Trevor Georgie, president and general manager of the Sea Dogs, said Emond is very experienced and will enhance the leadership in their dressing room.
