A fire that struck a building at 1804 Washington St. in Evanston this evening displaced two residents of the home.
Fire Division Chief Kimberly Kull says the residents, and their cat, had managed to flee the building by the time firefighters arrived at 7:29 p.m.
Kull says they found smoke and fire coming from the basement of the split-level home, located just a few doors away from Fire Station #4, but managed to put the fire out within a half hour.
The American Red Cross was called to provide food, housing and social services for the displaced residents.

A fire in the kitchen of a second floor apartment forced 11 residents a building at 2137 Howard St. in Evanston from their homes Friday night.

A fire in the kitchen of a second floor apartment forced 11 residents a building at 2137 Howard St. in Evanston from their homes Friday night.
Fire Division Chief Kimberly Kull says first arriving companies found moderate smoke and fire conditions on the structure’s second floor. She says firefighters were able to limit the fire to the kitchen area of the unit where it started and had it extinguished in just over a half hour.

A woman is hospitalized in the intensive care unit at a local hospital as the result of a fire on Dempster Street this afternoon.

Update 6:15 p.m.: A woman is hospitalized in the intensive care unit at a local hospital as the result of a fire on Dempster Street this afternoon.
Fire Division Chief Kimberly Kull says fire crews responding to an automatic fire alarm at the Claridge Apartments at 319 Dempster St. found a middle-aged woman unresponsive in a third floor apartment. She had no pulse and was not breathing.
