The Scotch pie is the UK’s most searched for pie online, according to research by Eat Great Meat.
The online butchers analysed a year’s worth of searches for different pies in Google Keywords and Trends to determine the UK’s favourite pie.
Scotch pies topped the table with 386,000 searches, representing 16.9% of all searches for pies across the UK over the past 12 months. Originating in Scotland, the pie traditionally contains mutton (although beef is commonly used now) and is a fan favourite at football games.
Vegan pie came in second with around half as many searches for the term, followed by vegetarian cottage pie, Cornish pasty and banoffee pie. Mince pies also made the top 10 (see table below).
IN a supermarket first, Morrisons has launched The Best Shorthorn Steak Pie in time for British Pie Week, which starts on March 1. Renowned for its rich flavour and tender, marbled meat, the British Shorthorn beef brisket takes ‘steak pie’ to a whole new level. The famed, home-grown meat is cooked up with smoked bacon, rich red wine gravy and all-butter shortcrust pastry. The first pre-packed pie is part of the Morrisons ‘The Best’ range. Bradford-based Morrisons was the first supermarket to launch a Shorthorn Beef brand in 2016, developing a range based around the top-quality meat which is characterised by marbling; making for great taste and tenderness.

Pukka, the nation’s favourite pie brand, has partnered with the nation’s number one frozen potato manufacturer McCain, to help retailers drive sales amongst shoppers looking for the perfect ‘pie and chips’ meal solution.
The partnership will see the brands activating over February and March, via shopper marketing, to inspire people to tuck into a pie and chips night in for two which feels a little more special – particularly during British Pie Week (1 – 7 March). Pukka’s Just For Two sharing pie range – Steak & Red Wine, Chicken, Ham & Leek and Vintage Cheddar & Leek – will sit alongside McCain Chilled Home Chips.
