Image used for representational purpose only BHUBANESWAR: Day after the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) announced alternative marking system for Class X students, experts felt it may not be able to do justice to the merit of students. “The BSE has made a mockery of the examination system. Class IX final exam was not conducted by the board, but 40% weightage will be given to Class IX mark. Similarly, exams of Class X were held as practice test and were optional, so many students did not appear. How can the marking system be fair to students? asked Sayakam Mishra, a former BSE president.

FINGERS CROSSED BHUBANESWAR: After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced cancellation of Class-X and postponement of Class XII board examinations, all eyes are on Odisha government on the ensuing Class X and XII boards. Earlier the government had said it would take decision on the basis of the decisions of the Centre and other states. “We will hold a meeting on Thursday morning and discuss the Covid-19 situation in the state and take a decision which will be good for the career and safety of the students,” said school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash. Students and parents in the state are expecting that the state government will follow the central board’s decision while academics expressed a mixed view. Some experts said government should not be in a hurry to take a decision on cancelling or postponing the examinations.
