Mercedes-Benz is finally starting its big push into the electric vehicle market in Canada with the EQS, a decadent luxury sedan with 700 kilometres of driving range. It is overflowing with high-tech features and amenities the likes of which the world has never seen before in a vehicle.
Mercedes is a late entrant into the electric vehicle market in Canada. When the EQS arrives in dealerships this fall, it will be the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz sold here. The brand’s key rivals – namely Audi, BMW and Porsche – already have EVs in showrooms today, not to mention Tesla, which has been selling its Model S sedan since 2012.

Daimler AG (DAIGn.DE) on Thursday unveiled the electric âsiblingâ of its flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class luxury sedan, taking the fight to market-leader Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) in the battle for market share as electric car sales take off.
The EQS is the first in a family of Mercedes-Benz cars built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform built from the ground up. It will go on sale in Europe and the United States in August, then in China in January.

The allure of Dreadnought-class sedans is not lost on your author, especially ones with 12 cylinders under the hood. This is partially due to an irritatingly extroverted personality, but also his long standing belief that every car should have more cylinders than doors.
This forthcoming machine, likely to be billed a Mercedes-Maybach, definitely fits that profile. Part of the company’s “100 Years of Maybach” campaign, the sedan shown here wasn’t accompanied by any technical specs, but does proudly wear a V12 badge on its front fender.
