What they re witnessing is echoed in the latest report from the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, which said the number of newly homeless almost doubled in 2020. McElroy thinks a major contributor is addiction. Just the rampant drug and alcohol use down there is just skyrocketing. I drive the streets, I walk the streets every day, McElroy said.

DOST conducts training on tomato processing in Ilocos Sur town

STA. CRUZ, Ilocos Sur, May 17 (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology in the Ilocos (DOST 1), through its Provincial Science and Technology Center - Ilocos Sur (PSTC-IS), conducted a livelihood training on tomato processing at Camanggaan village here on May 14.   DOST, as a member of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC), is implementing the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) program and organized the said training for the tomato growers of barangay Camanggaan to provide them with additional income and alternative livelihood.   A total of 22 farmers were taught how to make tomato ketchup, tomato sauce, tomato salsa, and tomato jam.
