These housing vouchers are going to change the lives of 470 San Diegans and their families, Mayor Todd Gloria said. Programs like this will provide safety for some of our most vulnerable and create a level of stability that would otherwise be out of reach.

Gavin Newsom on Tuesday announced a $12 billion proposal to create affordable housing, increase mental health services and fund other programs to get people off the street. Newsom made the announcement at the Kearny Vista Apartments, one of two former San Diego hotels that were purchased and converted into housing with funding from the state’s Project Homekey program introduced by the governor last year. “What we’re announcing here today is truly historic,” Newsom said. “It’s unprecedented, not just in California history. What we’re announcing here today is simply unprecedented in American history.”

The mayor said, based from intelligence reports, there are no Calayanos who were reportedy linked with the rebel groups and there were also no record of encounters nor attempts of the New Peoples Army infiltration in the area. Though we are very peaceful in this island, we need to sustain the effort. We also need government collaborations to improve further our status because left-leaning groups tend to cultivate situations in remote areas like ours, Llopis said.

Print Tamera Kohler, CEO of the Regional Task Force on the Homeless, considers San Diego’s challenges and somehow remains optimistic. “I wake up every morning really sort of empowered to do this work,” Kohler said in a recent interview for the Name Drop San Diego podcast. “It goes back to the fact that I firmly believe this is a solvable problem. I get to see the data all the time. I get to see where the money is. I get to see the impact and the effort. I get to see that every day we’re ending homelessness.” Kohler has worked on issues of housing and homelessness for many years in multiple locations, including serving as director of Utah’s homeless management information system and as director of Seattle’s homeless strategy and investment division. She joined the Regional Task Force on the Homeless in San Diego in 2017 as chief operations officer before becoming CEO in 2018.

ELCAC priority brgys in NegOr to get P20-M BDP funding in 2022

DUMAGUETE CITY, May 10 (PIA) All barangays in Negros Oriental identified as priority areas under the government’s “whole of nation approach to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) program can expect a P20-M budget allocation from the government for the implementation of their Barangay Development Plans (BDP) next year. This was disclosed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG- 7) Regional Director Leocadio Trovela who said that ELCAC priority barangays in Central Visayas are included in the second batch of beneficiaries of BDP funding which is slated for release in 2022. DILG-7 Regional Director Leocadio Trovela, in an interview with PIA, said 83 barangays in Central Visayas will get P20-M from the NTF ELCAC for their Barangay Development Programs (BDP) in 2022.
