Focus on Regions seven, ten after spike in COVID-19 cases Dr Frank Anthony December 18, 2020 Regions Seven and Ten remain areas of interest with the continuing rise of COVID-19 cases in those areas. Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony made this disclosure during a recent COVID-19 update where he stated that the main areas of focus are Bartica in Region Seven and Linden in Region Ten. He noted that in Bartica, there were previously over 70 active cases.  The number has dropped. According to the Regional Health Emergency Committee, the region now has a total of 46 active cases with a total of 525 cases being recorded since the initial outbreak in the region. The committee in a press release through the Regional Democratic Council stated that it has been advocating for persons to adjust their behaviour and adhere to the emergency guidelines in place however. Unfortunately however, persons continue to flout these measures.

Region One Literacy Coordinator passes away James France December 18, 2020 The Regional Literacy Coordinator for Region One, James France, who had served in this capacity for a number of years died earlier this week. In a Facebook post, Regional Chairman, Brentnol Ashley offered condolences to France’s family saying that the Regional Democratic Council was saddened to learn of the coordinator’s sudden passing. “He was …dedicated and very passionate where ever Education was concern… he loved music, love singing…. he was truly a remarkable person in every sense,” Ashley’s post stated. “The Regional Chairman and Regional Democratic Council extends sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Mr. James France as we continue to pray for God’s strength and grace be granted to them,” Ashley added.

Region Eight RDC still in limbo -AFC accuses PPP/C of delaying amidst efforts to replace lone independent councillor Jimmy James December 13, 2020 The Alliance For Change (AFC) has accused the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) of deliberately delaying the convening of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) because it is unlikely to win the positions of Chair and Vice Chair. Speaking during a virtual press conference on Friday, AFC General Secretary David Patterson described the delay in appointing the elected councillors as “a shameful disregard of the rights of the people of Region Eight to have their elected officials preside over their affairs” and announced that his party will be approaching the High Court to see the matter resolved.
