An inmate in Ohioâs Mansfield Correctional Institution accused of killing a 16-year-old in 2018 pleaded not guilty Wednesday in a Butler County courtroom, according to the Journal-News.
Markeylnd Townsend, 22, of Hamilton, is charged with murder with a gun specification and felonious assault stemming from a July 2018 incident in Fairfield Twp. He is accused of firing a weapon into a car full of people driven by Sydney Garcia-Tovar, 16, of Hamilton, who died as a result of the gunshot.

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio â A Fairfield Township family said they are one step closer to finding answers in the death of one of their own.
Sixteen-year-old Sydney Garcia-Tovar was shot and killed in 2018. On Wednesday, police announced a grand jury had indicted Markeylnd Townsend, 22, on charges connected to the crime.
âI mean, itâs been a thousand-plus days since sheâs been taken from us,â said Garcia-Tovarâs brother, Joaquin Garcia-Tovar.

Fairfield Twp. officers are investigating a double fatal, two-vehicle crash on Ohio 4 that happened Friday morning, the Journal-News reported.
A 2003 Toyota Corolla was headed south on Ohio 4/Hamilton-Middletown Road and driven by Terri Alcorn, 67, of Cincinnati, when it crossed the center of the road and struck a 2002 Toyota Sienna headed north, said Fairfield Twp. Police Sgt. Brandon McCroskey. The Sienna was driven by Janice King, 65, of Monroe.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 9:56 a.m. to Ohio 4 in front of Butler Tech in Fairfield Twp.

Fairfield Twp. police seek third suspect in Thursday shooting

FAIRFIELD TWP. – Police are looking for a third suspect in an early morning drive by shooting into a residence in the Tyler’s Creek apartments in Fairfield Township.
Police were called to the townhomes at 1:59 a.m. after shots were fired into a unit in the 7700 block of Wildbranch Road, said Sgt. Brandon McCroskey.
No injuries were reported.
Multiple shell casings were located in front of the home and police saw that a bullet had gone into another nearby residence. No one there was hit, McCroskey said.
Officers stopped a vehicle in the area and found two loaded firearms. Vernon K. Mitchell, 39, is charged with improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle, a felony, and having weapons while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
