Sylvania area businesses benefitting from increased visitors during Marathon LPGA Classic

SYLVANIA, Ohio Over the next couple of days, you ll likely see more people around downtown Sylvania.
The Marathon LPGA Classic brings thousands to the area and millions of dollars to local businesses.
It s great for the area, especially after 2020 s tournament didn t have spectators.
Officials at the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce say being able to have fans back and walking the streets is exciting and it s a group effort putting it on.

South Carolina had a trio of freshmen enter the transfer portal Monday afternoon, including two pitchers and a former top 100 recruit.
Mag Cotto, Brandon Fields and Travis Luensmann all are in the portal, a school spokesperson confirmed Monday afternoon.
Cotto has seen the most action this season for South Carolina, tossing 8.2 innings out of the pen with a 8.31 ERA. He only made one SEC appearance, giving up five runs Friday night to Mississippi State.
Fields appeared in six games as a freshman, going 0-for-6 with two runs scored, a walk and four strikeouts. He made one start.

Julian Edelman announced his retirement on Monday, ending a spectacular career with the Patriots. A seventh-round pick in 2009, Edelman turned into one of the most versatile players in NFL history.
He came to the Patriots as a college quarterback from Kent State. He developed into a No. 1 receiver who returned kicks, punts, threw touchdown passes and even played cornerback. There wasn’t much that Edelman couldn’t do on the football field.

COLUMBIA - The quartet of Brannon Jordan, Jackson Phipps, Will Sanders and Brett Kerry combined for the University of South Carolina baseball team’s first shutout of the season and the Gamecocks scored three runs in the first inning on its way to a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon (March 6) at Founders Park.
Jordan struck out a career-high 11 batters in his five innings. He allowed just one hit and walked three. Phipps gave up a hit in a scoreless sixth, while Sanders and Kerry each had three strikeouts in their outing.
