Oregon OSHA’s Emergency Heat Rules Are a Good Start to Protecting At-Risk Workers; Strong Enforcement Will be Necessary
SALEM, Ore Oregon OSHA today issued emergency rules protecting workers from climate-fueled excessive heat, following an extensive campaign by workers’ rights, environmental, and public health advocates. Governor Kate Brown directed the agency to adopt emergency rules following the tragic and preventable death of 38-year-old farmworker, Sebastian Francisco Perez. Perez died while working on a tree farm in St. Paul, Oregon during the height of last week’s heatwave. Applications for West Virginia state park lottery hunts
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.VA. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is now accepting applications to participate in controlled deer hunts at seven state parks. Controlled hunts are scheduled this fall at Beech Fork, Blennerhassett, Canaan Valley, Cacapon, North Bend, Stonewall, and Twin Falls state parks. Hunters have from July 1 to Aug. 30 to apply. Drawing for the hunts will start on Aug. 31 and successful applicants will be notified between Sept. 6-17.
“Controlled hunts have proven to be an effective way to maintain a balanced deer herd in areas experiencing overpopulation,” said West Virginia State Parks Chief Brad Reed. “These hunts are one of the ways we manage deer populations in our parks.”

Almost immediately after she walked through the boarded-up doorway and into the motel’s hallway, Baker recognized a metal box filled with some of her daughter Taylor’s old art projects, a children’s book and other keepsakes – all of which had been spared from a late-night fire that destroyed virtually everything Baker hadn’t been able to remove from her old room as the city pushed residents there to leave.
