Project Prom providing free formal wear for prom season

Apr 10, 2021 / 09:36 AM EST FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) – Johnson County Public Library is helping teens shop for formal wear ahead of prom season during its annual Project Prom pop-up event. High school students can take home donated dresses, suits, shoes and accessories free of charge at the Franklin Branch on Saturday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  There have been over 800 attendees since the pop-up began in 2013 and nearly 200 teens found formal wear to take home in 2018, according to event staff. It is an outdoor event and masks will be required for health and safety reasons. Teens will be allowed to browse in small groups to ensure social distancing.

Franklin library hosts Project Prom this weekend

Courtesy of JCPL FRANKLIN, Ind. – Johnson County Public Library (JCPL) will host the annual Project Prom pop-up event this year at its Franklin location, at 401 State St. Local teens can shop and take home donated formal wear, including dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, free of charge. The outdoor weekend event is “popping up” this Saturday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the library’s Franklin branch. Kelly Staten, JCPL Programming Manager, envisioned Project Prom after realizing she had accumulated several formal dresses through the years. “They were just taking up space when I thought, why not create a program at the library?” Donations of gently used items are accepted year-round at any JCPL branch.
