Coimbatore: Public toilets on Prabhu Nagar Main Street are hardly usable for the slum residents in the area and they are forced to defecate in the open.
While there are six toilets on the main street, they lack regular water supply and lights. The toilets were constructed two years ago under the Swachh Bharat scheme. There are another set of toilets behind the slum as well.
On Thursday, the toilets on the main street were found open after 11.30am. And according to the residents, that was very unusual. One of the residents was found washing clothes there. “No one uses these toilets. So, I thought I could wash my clothes,” says Lakshmi, a resident who lives opposite the toilet block and keeps its keys.
