It’s been 15 months since cruise guests were able to board a ship and sail out of a U.S. port, but that’s finally about to change.
Celebrity Cruises on Wednesday announced that, after meeting standards set out by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it will become the first cruise line to start sailing out of the U.S. post-COVID when Celebrity Edge sails a seven-night itinerary from Port Everglades on June 26.
Celebrity Cruises CEO and president Lisa Lutoff-Perlo helped make the announcement on Twitter on Thursday, writing that “Someday is here.”
The biggest cruise companies in the world are in full swing with their plans for the summer season, focusing on Greece this year, which precedes the resumption of the industry’s activities in any other European country.
