Carol Delorme joining the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan election race

Carol Delorme is throwing her hat in the ring as the Métis Nation-Saskatchewan elections get underway.
Delorme is in the running to be Area Director for Region WR1A, which houses the Lloydminster to Battlefords area, going as far north as Frenchman Butte and as south as Wilkie.
She has been a 32-year resident of Lloydminster, and in her time here has been active in the Métis community in numerous capacities and has been a familiar face at many Métis nation meetings over the years, something she says she picked up from her mother and grandmother before that.
Shari Priscilla Heathen is charged with second-degree murder for Sparvier’s death. At her court appearance on April 19, her defence lawyer told the court that he had been in discussions with the Crown about a proposed resolution in her case. She appears next in court on May 25. Bird’s matter will be before the court again on May 19. The charges against Heathen and Bird haven’t been proven in court. Sparvier’s body was found on Jan. 1, 2020, east of St. Walburg in the R.M. of Frenchman Butte. Police say the investigation into Sparvier’s death is ongoing and they encourage anyone with information to call Turtleford RCMP at 306-845-4520. Christine Niemczyk of CAA says the group wasn t able to do the survey last year because of COVID. “It’s an annual campaign and we weren’t able to actually do it last year because it was right at the start of the pandemic and we just weren’t quite ready for it. The campaign has returned and poor roads are something we often talk about. In the past eight or nine years of doing the campaign, we’ve found that the number one problem or issue seemed to be potholes, crumbling pavement, ruts, poor infrastructure, and not enough infrastructure for pedestrians or cyclists to share the road safely with drivers,” Niemczyk said.

May 29th has been circled as Election day for the Métis Nation in Saskatchewan. There are 12 individual Voting Regions across the province.
The nomination period runs from April 24th to 29th with voting in the Regional Returning Office beginning on May 15 and Advance polls rolling out on May 22nd.
Lashburn resident Crystal Miller is filing her papers to run for area director of Western Region 1A covering Lloydminster-North Battleford, bounded by Macklin and Wilkie to the south, and Frenchman Butte and Spiritwood to the north.
