The partnership goal is to support local reforestation efforts of areas affected by Northern California Wildfires in the past years. San Luis Obispo City Fire SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. San Luis Obispo City Fire conducted a planned burn of vegetation near the Irish Hills open space near Prefumo Canyon Road in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday. City fire is conducting a planned burn to help reduce threats of wildfire in the area. “The Irish Hills Open Space presents a significant wildfire threat to the City of San Luis Obispo due to its proximity to homes and businesses and the lack of any significant recorded fire history,” said San Luis Obispo Fire Chief Keith Aggson. “The fuel, or vegetation, density in this area had long remained unchecked until the recent grant-funded fuel break work that was completed under the direction of the SLO County Fire Safe Council utilizing grant funding provided by the State.”

Burning is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Firefighters say the prescribed burn will help reduce the threat and severity of wildfire in the area and aid in restoring natural ecosystem processes. The piles contain French Broom, an invasive non-native plant that firefighters say can create a highly flammable fuel and greatly increases the fire danger.
