More than 100 people participated Saturday morning in the Temple Historic District Fourth of July Parade, said Alyce Bartley, president of the Historic Preservation League of Temple.
Led by the Temple Fire and Rescue antique Diamond T engine, and escorted by Temple Police, the parade started at 9 a.m. at North Ninth Street and West French Avenue. It passed down Ninth Street as far as West Nugent Avenue.
âWe had a Scout troop ⦠and lots of kids on decorated bikes,â she said.
The parade was several blocks long, she said. It included Jayson Parks, dressed as Uncle Sam.
âHeâs done it for several years,â she said. âWe had Grannyâs Shaved Ice at the end of the parade. We paid for the first 50 snow cones.â

SANFORD, Fla. - A massive fire consumed multiple homes in Sanford overnight.
Neighbors frantically dialed 911 as the blaze spread to several homes in the historic neighborhood.
Firefighters rushed to the scene on Oak Avenue near 4th Street around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. This is a few blocks from French Avenue in Sanford.
One neighbor says she could feel the heat coming from the homes. FOX 35 News has learned at least 4 homes were affected.
She says homeless people are known to the area and was worried some were inside the home.
Authorities have yet to learn where she was killed, the sheriff said. Chitwood said the woman was 29 and from Orange City, but she would not be identified until her next of kin was notified. She had been stabbed and slashed multiple times and she was dead at the scene, Chitwood said during a news conference in DeLand on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman had about six deep slashes and about a dozen stab wounds from her knees to the top of her head, Chitwood said.
Volusia County sheriff’s investigators worked the case all night Tuesday and Wednesday morning and were led to a suspect vehicle, which was spotted in Seminole County on Wednesday afternoon, Gant said.
