NEW BRIGHTON A Baden man has been arrested and charged with shooting a woman and firing at police during a July 3 incident in New Brighton.
Lonnie Michael James Nalepa, 29, is charged with one count of attempted homicide of a police officer, two counts of attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated assault, three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of possession of a prohibited firearm, and one count of possession with intent to deliver.
According to the affidavit, at approximately 8:30 a.m. July 3, police were called to an apartment along Third Avenue in New Brighton regarding a reported domestic incident.

After about 45 minutes of discussion, the Brighton Board of Education took no action Monday night on a Level III grievance by the Brighton Education Association. The grievance was filed on behalf of high school teacher Aaron Walter, who was approved and assigned to teach a credit recovery class in 6th hour for two semesters â comprising a full year.
Walter taught the first semester and assumed from the contract he and an administrator signed that he would be teaching the class again in the second semester. But when the second semester rolled around, there was no class. According to BEA President Barry Goode, the snafu occurred due to a clerical error by a staff secretary that was not caught.

Ford - one of the Brighton Area School Districtâs 12 social-emotional-learning dogs â is resting at home after surgery last month for a torn ligament, which is equivalent to an ACL tear in his knee. The surgery was performed by Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Twp., which donated the surgical procedure and waived all related charges.
It was for that reason that the Brighton Board of Education named the veterinary practice a âShining Starâ at its March 22nd meeting and accepted the donation of $3,900 in veterinary services. Karen Storey, whose idea it was to start the âPack of Dogsâ program and who is its founder, says, âThey jumped right on board to help Ford out. They knew first-hand the value that our dogs bring to the childrenâs and staffâs social and emotional well-being.â Storey adds that Dr. Kristin Wilson of the Arbor Hills Anima
