SCOTLAND’S first community-based housing association is going gold to mark its 50th anniversary. Govan Housing Association was formed in 1971 in a trail-blazing move that led the way for others to follow. Now the association is poised to mark the milestone with a series of events putting the community at the heart of celebrations. The pandemic has understandably changed the association’s celebration plans but there is increasing confidence that with restrictions being eased, celebratory events will go ahead. Chief Executive Fiona McTaggart said: “This is a momentous year for Govan Housing Association and one we are confident the community can join us in celebrating.
WORK is under way on delivering a multi-million pound housing boost in the heart of Govan. Govan Housing Association is building 92 flats costing £17 million in a waterfront development designed to transform the look of Govan Cross. The new homes for rent – with an additional six commercial units beneath them – will be created at Water Row close to the River Clyde as part of a wider multi-million masterplan to help regenerate the community. Over the next five months, work will take place preparing the initial ground work at a recently-closed car park where the flats will be constructed. Building will get under way in January next year and is expected to take two year

The cash is to be used to employ energy advisors to help people slash their fuel bills. Housing associations that secured the funding welcomed the news as “another step forward” in the fight against fuel poverty. The money has come from the UK energy regulator OFGEM’s Energy Redress Scheme and is administered by the Energy Saving Trust. Elderpark Housing has been awarded the funding to work with Govan and Linthouse Housing Associations with each association having a dedicated Energy Advisor who can offer support and assistance. Elderpark Housing, in partnership with Govan and Linthouse Housing Associations, are the only housing association recipients in a list of nine UK awards in this current round of funding.
