At least five people were killed in car crashes, tens of thousands of homes and businsses lost power and a sports dome collapsed as Winter Storm Gail dumped record amounts of snow in the Northeast Wednesday into Thursday.
Hundreds of crashes were reported during the snowy weather, including a deadly Pennsylvania pileup that involved at least 66 cars.
More than 70,000 power outages were reported Thursday morning as the storm moved through, bringing more than three feet of snow to some areas.
In Binghamton, New York, a sports dome billed as the largest of its kind in the U.S. collapsed under the weight of the snow. The privately owned dome at the Binghamton Sports Complex is popular for youth sports leagues and tournaments.

COHOES An Essex County grand jury has indicted former Cohoes police officer Sean T. McKown on misdemeanor charges related to an off-duty June 6 incident in Elizabethtown in which he fired his service weapon and later claimed a Black male had shot at him first.
