Writer Brenda Suderman and photographer Mike Deal continue to share stories and photos from inside the vaults and hidden corners of the city’s community-run museums. Recently they visited Seven Oaks House Museum at 50 Mac St., located midway between Main and Scotia Streets in West Kildonan. Considered the oldest house in Winnipeg, the property was completed in 1853 for John and Mary Inkster and their children. The nine-room Georgian style house, known for its large porches, cedar-shingled roof and symmetrical appearance, housed family members until the death of daughter Mary in 1912, who willed the large property to the City of Winnipeg. One of four people charged, following a violent crime spree in the Punnichy area, remains in custody, after appearing in Regina Court of Queen’s Bench yesterday (MON).
26-year-old Jamie Munroe, who faces a total of 13 charges, including Assault Causing Bodily Harm, will be back in court on May 21st.
In May of 2019, police say a man was struck by a vehicle, then shot, on the Muskowekwan First Nation.
Then, the next day, an altercation on the Piapot First Nation led to one victim allegedly being struck with a machete, and the other being chased to the Muscowpetung First Nation.

A 63-year-old man who exchanged intimate images with a 16-year-old girl and lured her to a hotel room in Saskatoon to have sex has received a 20-month jail sentence.
Oakley Blackstar, a former band councillor and a longtime educator at the Piapot First Nation in southern Saskatchewan, appeared at Saskatoon Provincial Court Tuesday for the sentencing hearing. He entered a guilty plea to luring a child to facilitate an offence. While the legal age of consent to sexual activity is 16, Blackstar admitted it was wrong to send sexual photos to someone under the age of 18.

28-year-old Derek Pasap faces a total of twenty charges, including one count of Attempted Murder, and his next appearance was set for June 16th.
