Piapot FN goes visual with COVID safety photo billboards March 2, 2021 By Evan Radford  Local Journalism Initiative Reporter The old cliche says a picture is worth a thousand words; Piapot First Nation figures seven more won’t hurt. The Cree nation north of Regina is using photo-billboards with short, seven-word phrases to remind its members to stay COVID-safe through the pandemic. Each of the four, double-sided billboards feature images of band members doing safety protocols to stop the spread of the coronavirus: A young toddler wears a racoon face shield while munching on a snack; a middle-aged man wearing a mask readies his hands for a squirt of hand sanitizer; and, among others, a girl is washing her hands while wearing her pink Barbie mask.

Woman Charged in Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Collision in August 2019 Has a New Court Date

By Ryan Young Feb 24, 2021 6:24 PM A new court date has been set for a Piapot First Nation woman, charged following a fatal vehicle/pedestrian collision in the summer of 2019. 43-year-old Leah Pratt, who is charged with Dangerous Driving Causing Death and Criminal Negligence Causing Death, is scheduled to be back in Regina Provincial Court on September 1st.. Southey RCMP were called to the scene of the incident on August 24th, 2019, where a woman present confirmed she had struck the victim with her vehicle, on a driveway at a home on the reserve. 33-year-old Nolan Sugar was pronounced dead at a Regina hospital.

COVID-19 in Sask : 171 new cases, 2 deaths, outbreak at Piapot First Nation

(CBC News) There were 2,337 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan on Sunday.  There are currently 214 in hospital due to COVID-19, 30 of whom are in intensive care. Piapot First Nation outbreak Indigenous Services Canada Medical Health Officer Dr. Tom Wong declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Piapot First Nation on Sunday. The first nation is located approximately 50 kilometres north of Regina.  It is critical that members do not go around visiting others. This is how the virus is spreading, said Piapot First Nation Chief Mark Fox in a Facebook video on Sunday.  Since November, Piapot has had 70 COVID-19 cases, according to Fox. The First Nation currently has 36 active cases.
