Seattle Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll has usually preferred tall cornerbacks (at least 6-feet) with long arms (at least 32 inches).
The famous “Legion of Boom” secondary consisted of cornerbacks Richard Sherman (6-foot-3, 32-inch arms), Brandon Browner (6-3 1/2, 32 3/4-inch arms) and Byron Maxwell (6-foot, 33 1/2-inch arms). More recently, the Seahawks drafted Shaquill Griffin (6-foot, 32 3/8-inch arms) in the 2017 NFL draft and they signed free agent cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon (6-3, 33-inch arms) and Pierre Desire (6-1, 33-inch arms) in 2021.
Adding Cornerback Depth, Seahawks Claim Saivion Smith Off Waivers
Formerly a starter at Alabama, Smith has bounced around with two NFL teams and also spent a stint in the XFL. Now, he will join a crowded Seattle cornerback room after hitting waivers earlier this week.

With the 2021 NFL Draft now wrapped up and offseason activities approaching, the Seahawks continue to add depth to their secondary.
According to NFL Network s Mike Garafolo, Seattle claimed cornerback Saivion Smith off waivers. The third-year defender was waived by Dallas on Tuesday, mere days after the team used three draft picks on defensive backs.
Richard Sherman doesn’t rule out returning to the Seattle Seahawks

Sherman hasn’t eliminated the possibility of returning to the Seattle Seahawks as he mulls his options.
“I spend my entire offseason in Seattle, that’s where I live, that’s where my family is. So, it’s never out of the cards,” Sherman said Wednesday of ESPN’s “First Take” show. “Obviously, Pete (Carroll) and I have had conversations throughout the offseason, and everything just needs to shake out right. They’re still figuring things out, I’m still figuring things out.”
