Born in Tilora village in the Wazirganj area of Gaya district of Bihar on 8 April 1942, Budh Sharan Hans belongs to the rare breed of writers who practise what they preach. He has used his short stories, poems, biographies, autobiography and his skills as an editor and publisher to telling effect for spreading the ideology of Phule and Ambedkar. He has so far published four collections of short stories, five volumes of his autobiography, an anthology of poems and dozens of booklets targeting religious status quoism. The Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) that collected economic and caste data of households in 2011-12 will not be updated, sources said.
Instead, the Centre will prepare a social registry of households with information on assets and benefits reaching them through government schemes. The registry will be drawn up using household data being collected under the ongoing population census.

The central government is not keen on maintaining caste data in the registry, two senior government officials said. Leaders of different social groups have threatened agitation if their demand for inclusion of caste data in the social registry is not met.
LUCKNOW: Even as President Ram Nath Kovind laid the foundation stone for a cultural and research centre dedicated to BR Ambedkar here on Tuesday, the event turned into a political slugfest with BSP accusing BJP of trying to appease Dalits ahead of the UP assembly polls and BJP hitting back.
While Kovind hailed the architect of the Constitution as an educationist, economist, jurist, politician, journalist, sociologist and social reformer who also contributed to culture, religion and spirituality, BSP chief Mayawati termed it a “drama by BJP.” “BJP had ignored Ambedkar and harassed his followers for the entire duration in which they were in power in UP. Now, the government is laying the foundation stone for a cultural centre,” she said. “BSP is not against any centre being built in Ambedkar’s name. But to do this for political gains is nothing but being deceitful,” she added.
LUCKNOW, June 29: BSP president Mayawati on Tuesday termed the laying of the foundation for Ambedkar cultural centre here a pre-poll act of “deceit” and “deception” by the BJP government to serve its electoral interest.
Had it been not a “deceit”, “deception” and “drama” before the 2022 assembly polls, “the President would have been inaugurating the centre and not laying the foundation stone” for it, said Mayawati.
The BSP supremo sought to undermine the Yogi Adityanath government’s move asserting that his government is no different than the previous ones of Akhilesh Yadav and the Congress in denying the rights of Dalits and backward class people.
