Hawks Get Comets at Home

The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team will take the floor at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman Friday when they welcome state ranked West Liberty. The Mid-Prairie girls are 7-6 on the year after handling Durant on the road Tuesday 54-29. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie in the win with 21 points. On the season, she’s the team leader with 13 points per game and seven rebounds per contest. Amara Jones leads the Hawks with four assists and three steals a night. West Liberty comes in with an overall record of 7-3. They are ranked No. 9 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Comets beat Wilton on Tuesday 75-54 on the strength of 30 points from Finley Hall. For the year, West Liberty is led by Hall at 18 points per game. Sailor Hall is best on the team with five assists and four steals per contest. Macy Daufeldt leads West Liberty on the glass with seven rebounds a night. Slow Start to Second Half Dooms Hawks Against Sixth Ranked Comets

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team hung in for a half against state ranked West Liberty on the road Tuesday before falling 61-26. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Golden Hawks led 6-5 early before West Liberty started a 16-2 run that spanned portions of the first and second quarter to build a 23-10 advantage. Mid-Prairie responded with eight straight to climb within 23-18 and trailed 25-18 at the half. Out of the locker room the Comets assumed control. They held Mid-Prairie without a point for the entire third quarter, 14 straight minutes in total while scoring 26 consecutive points. They would enact a continuous clock with around 90 seconds left in the game. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team is back on the road Monday when they travel to West Liberty to meet the Comets. Mid-Prairie is 4-3 on the season after a last second, 44-42 win at Monticello Saturday on a Phelan Hostetler shot as time expired. In the win over the Panthers, Mid-Prairie was led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 19 points and Hostetler’s 13. On the season, Mid-Prairie is paced by two in double figures with  Nonnenmann’s 12 points per game and Lugar’s 10 per contest. Nonnenmann also leads the team at six boards per game. Amara Jones leads the Hawks with four assists per game and Lugar averages a team best four steals per game.
