(WTVM) - A weekend of violence in the Chattahoochee Valley leaves family members of the victim as well as the community looking for solutions on how to stop the violence. One man is behind bars and another leaves behind a family wanting answers. 32-year-old Curtis Upshaw was killed over the weekend on Dillingham Street in Phenix City. Police believe 19-year-old Markei Miles is responsible and he is now charged with capital murder. There is no word yet on if any more arrests will be made. Upshaw’s family says, they’re going to miss the him and they want to see an end to the senseless violence in the Chattahoochee Valley. Charles Bevee was at the Marathon gas station, when Upshaw was shot.

Phenix City police responded to the Marathon gas station and arrived to find a wounded man in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot. The victim, 32-year-old Curtis Lee Upshaw, was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Capt. Darryl Williams said investigators were able to identify and then locate a suspect vehicle off Sandfort Road. That led them to arrest Markei Miles, 19, on a capital murder charge. He is being held in the Russell County Jail.

Around 4:20 a.m. Sunday morning, the Phenix City Police Department responded to the 2000 block of 45th Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered a man, identified as Johnathon Larson, age 34. The Russell County Coroner’s office responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The victim will be sent to the state crime lab in Montgomery for an autopsy. This is an ongoing investigation, Phenix City Police said in a press release.
