Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Kirana Merchants Association decided on Thursday to voluntarily shut shops in Begum Bazaar, the largest wholesale trade hub, by 5 pm from Friday due to the sudden surge in Covid-19 cases.
Shops in the market will be open from 9 am, the association said after a meeting of its executive members. The decision was taken as about 25 traders including association president Laxminarayan Rathi reportedly contracted Covid-19 in recent days.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Kirana Merchants Association on Thursday announced self lockdown by shutting shops in Begum Bazaar, the largest wholesale trade hub, by 5 pm from April 9 as the cases of coronavirus continue to increase.
However, the state government has made it very clear that it would not consider imposing a lockdown. Shops in the market will now be open from 9 Am to 5 Pm, as per the instructions issued by the Hyderabad Kirana Merchants Association following a meeting of executive members of the association.
Laxminarayan Rathi, president of The Hyderabad Grocery Merchant Association, and Mahesh Kumar Agarwal, general secretary, said the shops would be open from 9 am to 5 pm and closed till 5 pm.

In the wake of the rising number of COVID cases in Hyderabad, Begum Bazaar, the hub of wholesale and retail trade in the city, will be closed by 5 p.m. starting Friday.
This was announced by the Hyderabad Kirana Merchants’ Association at Begum Bazaar on Thursday.
Mahesh Kumar Gupta of the association said that the shops will be open from 9 a.m. and shutters will be pulled down by 5 p.m. and the same was instructed to the traders.
