Murfreesboro man charged with 53 counts of sex offenses involving minors

View Comments A Murfreesboro man has been indicted with 53 charges of sexual activities involving girls ages 11-14, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday. Authorities filed the charges after a three-month investigation by a Rutherford County Sherriff s detective. According to the Rutherford County Sheriff s Office, Spencer Gray, 22, used social media platforms including Snapchat and Instagram to reach girls. Six victims have been identified so far, but detectives say they know there are more victims. He reached out on social media and allegedly used any means necessary to exploit these children, said lead investigator Detective Austin Mobbs. Mobbs began the investigation after a tip from a parent. He s asking for other parents in the area to speak with their children to see if they had contact with Spencer and to contact him at (615) 904-3094 or dmobbs@rcsotn.org with any information they have.

Broome County veterans center coming to Binghamton or Johnson City

View Comments Broome County officials are pointing to a multitude of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, for the cancellation of the long-awaited one-stop-shop veterans center planned for the Town of Binghamton. Instead of building the center at the site of the former Vestal Hills Country Club in the rural hills near the Pennsylvania border, the county is now seeking a more centralized location in the city of Binghamton or Johnson City. We ll be looking at site acquisition in the next couple of months, go out to bid next year and estimate the project will be finished sometime in spring of 2023, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said.

Vestal housing development off Bunn Hill Road approved by Town Board

View Comments The one caveat all board members agreed to was that they would not accept a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement for the planned 43-acre, 161-unit apartment complex in the hills south of the Vestal Parkway and in a rural area near Binghamton University. If this project were to come back and seek a PILOT versus tax payment, I would not be in support of that, Councilman John Fletcher said. Town Attorney David Berger assured the board that developer Landmark Properties would not be seeking a PILOT. I did speak with the project sponsor s attorney this afternoon and she said that there is no application, there has not been an application for a PILOT, and there is no intention to do so.

Endicott lIthium-ion battery plant to begin production in 2022

Imperium3 received a charge Wednesday, one it hopes will power the economy in the Village of Endicott and Greater Binghamton for years to come.  Imperium3 New York Inc. (iM3NY) announced it has reached a critical funding threshold that will allow the lithium-ion battery manufacturer to build out its first Gigafactory, with production expected in early 2022. iM3NY has secured $85 million in funding, including a $50 million senior secured term loan from Riverstone Credit Partners and $35 million of equity funding. Magnis Energy Technologies invested $23.6 million in equity earlier this year. iM3NY also has $230 million of manufacturing assets in place, and the company said it is now “fully funded” with a capacity to generate over 1 gigawatt-hour of high-grade lithium-ion battery cells per year. The build-out of its first Gigafactory in the Huron Campus in Endicott, part of the former IBM campus, has already begun.
